“When you come to the end of a lollipop” is a famous song my grandpa always sang to me as a kid to cheer me up. When I would have a bundle of energy and dance around in my spider man pyjamas he would always say “Ehhh Gra Gra Feva sha” which is another way of telling me to calm down in a way. As a child, grandpa would always come to Chicago where we lived and spend quality time with the family, telling me captivating anecdotes and singing catchy songs. He would always be there to teach me very important life lessons as well. Simple things like having and showing gratitude for everyone and everything. When my parents would strictly scold me, he would have me say thank you to them because he knew that it was for the better and that it would help me develop proper etiquette. The thing about my grandpa is that he would always show his support through his presence. Even as I grew up in high school, he would constantly make trips to Chicago to see my plays, basketball and soccer games, etc. And just from his presence that made me feel special. Grandpa would always share his wisdom with me regardless of if it’s academical, social, or just getting through life. He would always leave with a point to ponder. Through all the lessons he’s taught me over the 17 years I’ve lived, he’s passing the baton onto my generation metaphorically, for us to represent and make him proud. I know he’s looking down and smiling at us all. Akindele Aboyade-Cole
